Assistive Technology (AT) Volunteer - Disability Nonprofit

Program Overview

The Assistive Technology Program promotes the use of equipment, software, devices, and applications suited to the needs of people with disabilities and older adults to improve life in the community and at home. The AT Program offers the following services:

  • AT Information and Referral offers assistive technology information and resources that offer financial support to obtain needed equipment, maintain a comprehensive database of agencies and organizations that offer AT-related services or products, and facilitate referrals to appropriate agencies based on individuals’ AT-related needs.
  • Our AT Coordinator works with consumers to identify the most appropriate assistive technology to meet their needs, helps them obtain it, and provides one-on-one training.
  • The AT lab offers various equipment and accessible computer workstations that consumers can use at our Anaheim office.
  • The Recycle/Reuse Program accepts donations of used medical equipment and assistive technology which are provided to individuals who need these items but cannot afford them or cannot obtain them through health insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to donation referrals and ask pre-screening questions.
  • Inspect donation items and dispose of equipment that is defective or ineligible for donation.
  • Help clean and sanitize donation items.
  • Prepare and mail intake forms.
  • Assist with scanning and uploading documents to DocuSign.

Desired Qualities

  • Comfortable using basic office equipment and Microsoft Windows
  • Friendly attitude and a reliable team member

Requirements

  • Knowledge, experience and/or passion for Assistive Technology or Durable Medical Equipment
  • Complete the interview, pass a background check, and attend orientation
  • Wear a face mask in the office
  • Able to carry and lift 30 to 40 lbs.
  • Log volunteer hours after every shift
  • Keep the Volunteer Coordinator informed about any changes or concerns
  • Minimum 4 hours of service per month
  • Maintain the confidentiality of Dayle McIntosh Center information

Schedule 

  • Flexible scheduling: Shifts available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30am to 5:00pm
