VIRTUAL NEED - Making Masks for Families in Need (DOS)
Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic, the Orange County Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC) has been activated to support immediate volunteer needs, including hands-on and virtual opportunities during this disaster.
ABOUT THIS VIRTUAL PROJECT:
During the coronavirus pandemic volunteers are needed to make fabric masks and you can help from the safety of your own home as Virtual Volunteers. The masks you make will be distributed to the families living in Pathways of Hope’s shelters, our employees, and families seeking housing. We currently have 25 staff, dozens of active volunteers, 60 people in our shelters, and up to 60 households visiting the HUB in a day. Thank you for supporting our community's most vulnerable residents during these difficult times!
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Collect the materials needed to make fabric masks as stated in the tutorial of your choice. Four videos are posted below, but you are not limited to them. Please note that all masks must be made of either 100% cotton and have 2 layers of fabric or HEPA filters (vacuum bag material).
Basic supplies include a sewing machine, thread, scissors, 100% cotton fabric, pins, nose wire (like pipe cleaner or twist tie, optional), elastic (optional), and time. In the videos, you will find the directions on how much fabric is needed, and how to cut and sew the masks together.
