Volunteer Long-Term Care Ombudsman to advocate for seniors

Long Term Care Volunteer Ombudsman

HOURS: Recommended 15 hours per month, very flexible schedule

PURPOSE:  To investigate and resolve complaints made by or on behalf of residents living in nursing and residential care homes. To provide advocacy and mediation to ensure that resident rights and quality of life are maintained or improved. 

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Residents living in nursing and residential care homes.

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

·        Receive and respond to inquiries and complaints made by or on behalf of residents in nursing and board & care homes.

·        Develop professional relationship with personnel in long-term care facilities through regular visits to assigned facilities.

·        Attend Ombudsman regional meetings and participate in ongoing training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Successful completion of our 36-hour State Certified Long-Term Care Ombudsman training and 10 hours of post-training of mentored facility visits.

·        Be at least 18 years old.

·        Sensitivity to the human situation as related to the aging process.

·        Computer proficiency.

·        Ability to maintain client confidentiality.

·        Valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation.

·        Proof of negative TB status and background check clearance.

You can NOT have been employed by a long-term care facility within the past year.
