Operation Jump Start (OJS) is a nonprofit organization that has served the Long Beach community for 25 years. Our mission is to help low resourced, high potential first generation students get in, stay in, and graduate from a four year college. We do this by providing academic support, mentoring, and exposure to a broader world. Our mentors are a vital component of our program by enriching the lives of our deserving 8th-10th grade youth through first-time experiences beyond the students' reach.
Mentors are college graduates over the age of 24 who are available to spend 4-6 hours a month with their matched student and are willing to commit 1-3 years to guiding and coaching their student. This commitment can satisfied by attending OJS events, making phone calls, and/or communicating via text and email. This mentorship provides our young people with guidance and assistance to help them achieve their educational, social and personal goals.
