Outdoor Education Center - Restore our Grove! Aug - Dec

Second Saturdays at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center's Living Classroom.  Our organic garden and citrus orchard sustained damage in the Canyon Fire 2 in October 2017.    It will take a village to restore our grove and transform it into a thriving permaculture Food Forest that meets human needs while protecting ecosystem health and maximizing biodiversity.

Join us and be a friend of the Food Forest!  We need plenty of tender loving care, positive vibes, and fun service work - this event is recurring and we hope you'll join us to continue our restoration of this incredible living classroom which supports the outdoor learning of thousands of school children each year.

Here are some unique details for the coming months:

August 10 - Eco-corps Expo - come help work in the food forest and then see all of the amazing accomplishments of our high school Eco-corps Interns.

September 14 - Help us at EarthFest 2019!  This is a major community sustainability event - we will need parking directors, zero waste station coordinators, registration table assistance and more.  Come join the fun with our other partner organizations that will join us at EarthFest: REI; Recess Revolution; Centennial Farms; Irvine Ranch Water District and more!  You can sign up for one or more of the following volunteer shifts: 8am --11am; 11am-- 2pm; 2pm-- 5pm.

If you sign up to help at EarthFEST on September 14 we ask that you attend one of the volunteer orientations beforehand. You can attend an orientation on: Thursday, September 5th from 6:30pm- 7:30pm or Saturday, September 7th from 9:00am- 10:00am.  Invites to volunteer orientations will be emailed.

Admission to the event is free for volunteers.

October 12 - Soil stewardship!!  Help make sure the sites where the new trees will be planted next month are full of rich organic matter.

November 9 & December 14 - Help plant additional fruit trees and as well as native plants in our "shrub ways" and "chaparr-alleys."  Be part of this amazing transformation of the land!

Please wear long pants, boots or sturdy shoes with a hard sole, and bring a long sleeved shirt to protect from sun or for comfort while moving mulch.
Bring a hat, sunglasses, suncreen, and a water bottle to refill from our ice water coolers! If you have your own gloves, please bring those - we will have a limited number of pairs to loan for the day.
Please email info@iroec.org with questions.
